Radio Interview this Week/ Show in 2 Weeks
Polygons will be performing a live set for the show SoundSound on WYPR this coming weekend. We’ll be asked about our current methods and the processes involved in the music that we make. For now here is a Hell Interface (Boards of Canada) remix that’s a bit old but every bit good.

R.I.P. 707
The sounds on the TR-707 have been the eternal cause of every “sound quality” debate between Josh and myself. It’s true that the sounds are awful on it but it is an amazing sequencer. This will always be the quintessential Polygons sound even after I get an Elektron and we win the Mercury Prize for Intimate Knowledge.

Everything used to look better.

Old Gear Review Number 4: Casio CZ-101
With the advent of piles upon piles of small format analog modeling synthesizers (see microKorg, Alesis Micron, Akai Miniak, Korg R3, etc.) I think its about time some appreciation should go to the early 80’s mini digital synths. These things weren’t just trying to emulate their predecessors, they were trying to create entirely new sounds. I’m talking about the Casio CZ-101...
Old Gear Review Number 3: Korg Poly-800
The accused:
I’ll start off by saying that I don’t dislike the Korg Poly-800. It’s just a bit lacking in certain areas. It has 8 voices which you can stack into 4 voices. By all means this is supposed to be a competitor synth to the Roland Juno series. Like the Microkorg the most dissapointing thing on this synthesizer is the filter. You can edit all of the 50 paramaters...
Old Gear Review Number 2: Korg Microkorg
While I’m all for newer and smaller synthesizer technology I am not for the MicroKorg. Like everyone else on the planet I eventually bought one of these back in 2007. Here is an introduction to the accused:
This review is a bit biased. I prefer the sound of analog synthesizers. The MicroKorg is a modeler of analog synth sounds (as well as more current day digital synths)....

We recently played a set for the show “An Hour of Kindness.” Here are the videos:
Old Gear Review 1: Small Stone Phaser
Josh and I collect a lot of gear. Guitar effects pedals account for a large portion of this collection. In the next few weeks we will be posting our thoughts and curiousities on since-discarded equipment. This is a good tutorial to clue our listeners in to what specific sounds they are hearing on recordings past and present. Today is phase shifter day. This is a family portrait of Electro-Harmonix...

Today’s graphic obsession. Is there licorice inside?
Touch Screen
I’ve seen a variation on one of these used in a Bjork live performance. Hand movements were used to control a virtual synth.
